The Importance Of Remembering The Holocaust

The Holocaust was a brutal and difficult time period. It was a systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six millions Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Nazis believed that they were “racially superior” and that the Jews, were deemed “inferior”, were a threat to the German racial community.

The Nazis also targeted other groups because of their perceived racial inferiority: Gypsies, the crippled, (Russians, Poles, and others…), homosexuals and many more. All this to say that it was a brutal and cruel era. To know that millions were persecuted and killed is horrible, but what was even worse was that the Jewish community was the primary target of the Nazis – to eliminate every single Jew.

Many of us have learned about the Holocaust either by our parents or at school, but nevertheless, I believe that we often forget about the true importance of the Holocaust and how it impacted the Jews. You know, for a very long time, Jewish people among others were labeled as stupid and inferior. Many of whom were being hated on, even their Synagogues were being vandalized by hateful people. But this is still the case today, and I believe that for every religion and race, we must respect and treat each other as equals. I am well aware that this has been said many times in my previous posts, but I truly believe in the words respect, love, and equality.

Speaking of, two days ago, my family and I had the privilege of attending a beautiful ceremony in remembrance of the Holocaust at our local Synagogue. What was said through prayer and talks moved me and made me reflect much deeper on this subject. In the room, we were among several Holocaust Survivors as well as families who have lost their loved ones. A very difficult time for them to attend the ceremony.

———-

Overall, many prayers were said and many talks were said, but there was one thing that was said in which stood out to me, it was the fact that hatred towards the Jews never began with the Holocaust, but with words. I have to say, we as a whole have not yet learned to accept and respect each other, we are the problem to our problems and thus, we can only fix it if we first fix ourselves.

20150716__WCJ-MORAN-07172Before I end this blog post, I want to say that the ceremony ended with a beautiful, inspiring women named Hana (on your left) who talked about her experience during the Holocaust. What she said was sad but very moving, and there was not a single person in the room who wasn’t touched by her story.

51xVPLrt1jL._SY346_She is the daughter and born survivor of one of the three young mothers who defined courage, defiance, and hope during the Holocaust. You can find her story in Wendy Holden’s international best-selling book called Born Survivors. I have not yet finished the book, but I can say that it is really good.

So let us never forget the importance of the Holocaust and how it has impacted the lives of many.

“We are alive. We are human, with good and bad in us. That’s all we know for sure. We can’t create a new species or a new world. That’s been done. Now we have to live within those boundaries. What are our choices? We can despair and curse, and change nothing. We can choose evil like our enemies have done and create a world based on hate. Or we can try to make things better.” – Carol Matas, Daniel’s Story

Freedom Is A Right – Immigration/Emigration

Freedom.

No matter your skin color, race, sex, ethnicity, nationality, religion or background, everyone deserves to be treated equally with kindness and love, but most importantly, everyone deserves freedom.

As human beings, we are all destined for freedom. I think of it as not merely a want, but a need. We need freedom. Freedom demonstrates the veracity of the human person, it defines us as human beings. But understand that if one does not have freedom, it is like loosing your will to live.

As human beings, we are all keen on judging one another, to jump to conclusion about that person, but we often forget that we ourselves have our flaws and that we are not perfect. That said, I think today’s society has gone too far in judging one another.

I’m referring to the millions of immigrants who are constantly being mistreated and are being told to go back to their home country. But don’t get me wrong, not every immigrant is being mistreated, in fact, many countries are welcoming and are open to immigrants, to give them the life that they need and deserve, which is a better and safer life.

But just imagine the hard life that these people are going through and are currently going through, hoping to find a better and safer life for not only themselves, but for their family. Recently, I just don’t understand why many countries are not willing to open their borders for these immigrants who have traveled a long and difficult way. I completely understand the security measures and what not to enter the country, but the fact that thousands of people from different countries are protesting against these immigrants is inhumane.

I think that many of these people are afraid that they will loose their values and culture because a new race and religion is settling in, but I also think that these people have the wrong impression on these immigrants. Many of whom believe that these immigrants are terrorists because that’s how they’re being portrayed in the media. The truth of the matter is, it’s false. Sure we have been hearing about terrorist attacks, but that shouldn’t give us the impression that these people are bad and that they are terrorist. Know that this does NOT represent them and their religion.

———-
I think I will cut it short and tell you that the reality of this subject is sad, scary and inhumane. In the end, we should all treat each other equally and be open and welcoming to these immigrants. Spreading love and kindness will always be remembered. Know that it is the little things such as this that will bring us far in life.

Hope you’re having a blessed day/night and hopefully you enjoyed my thoughts on this subject.

Climate Change Is Real

The subject many people talk about on Earth Day is the subject of climate change. How our Earth’s climate is rapidly changing and therefore creating devasting disasters. This creates a conundrum for us all.

Global warming. We all have heard it before but what is it and what causes global warming?

Here’s a simple definition of global warming. (And YES, it’s really happening!!!) Over the five decades, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. And it will continue to increase.

The cause is simply carbon dioxide, other air pollutants and greenhouse gasses that are rising up in our atmosphere, absorbing sunlight and solar radiation. Normally solar radiation would escape into space, but these pollutants in the atmosphere trap the heat and causes the planet to get hotter. And the result is simply catastrophe, and part of it is linked to extreme weather.

Here are the statestics recorded in January 2016!

But is this considered normal? Absolutely not! In fact, I have heard from many people that the subject of climate change is fake. They think it’s natural and that it’s part of our eco-system, not only that but they continuously ignore the proven scientific facts. They are living on the planet as if they have another one to go to. The truth of the matter is, we are the architects of this dreadful dilemma.

Honestly, I have no idea what will happen to our planet in the next few decades, but I only hope it will be something good and not something bad.

———-

Anyways, I believe that climate change is real and it’s most definitely not a joke. This must be a wake-up call to everyone that climate change is real and that it’s happening right now! Know that it is our actions that determine the future for our generation and the next.

Our planet is beautiful so let’s not take it for granted!

Keep On Dreaming

Dreams are necessary. Without dreams, there would be no ambition to chase. No goal to reach. We would all be nothing without dreams. Not having dreams is like following an invisible shadow. It’s literally impossible. But we must know what we want to do and follow that ambition. I’ll tell you right now, it would be impossible to achieve something in life without goals, and for these goals, we need dreams.

Most people have dreams, I know I do, and even the most successful people have dreams and their dreams made them to what they are now. I think it is only by dreams that you will find your purpose in life. To get there, you must work hard and never lose interest in life. You will have to stay motivated and never give up. This is a huge ingredient to success.

Dreaming is an essential part of our life as I mentioned before, but even if it’s big dreams or small dreams, you can achieve it. For example, I love Apple products, I love the way it looks, not to mention its beautiful performance, but if you take a moment to realize how it all happened in terms of the creation of the company, you’d be surprised. Steve Jobs had a dream, and he worked very hard to make it come true. But you see, by doing so, he changed the way we look at modern day technology. Now Apple is one of the top technological companies in the world.

For me, dreaming is very important and is an essential part of my life. Sometimes I dream about random things, and sometimes I dream about my future, but I realized that dreams will only come true if you truly put your heart, mind, and soul into it. Not to mention motivation. Without motivation, there wouldn’t be any dream, and without no dream, there wouldn’t be a true purpose in your life.

What I’m trying to say is, if you have the proper mindset and if you have a goal in life, go for it, and do whatever you can to achieve it. Life is not easy, there will be obstacles along the way that will prevent you from reaching it, but know that these obstacles will only make you closer to realize your dreams, your purpose. So turn obstacles into opportunities.

You’d be surprised that by simply dreaming, you are one step closer to realizing your purpose in life because the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

How Life Changes In The Blink Of An Eye

Life is full of risks. There are those we can plan for and those that just happen, changing our lives forever in the blink of an eye.

Think about it, life can provide us goodness and opportunities, but it can also provide us misery and unhappiness. What I’m trying to say is, life is unpredictable and for that alone, it can lead to unexpected events. All this to say that my life has changed dramatically over the years.

Growing up, I always wanted to know my purpose in life. I remember asking my parents the question, “What is my purpose in life?” And their answer was, “It is not up to us to know your purpose in life, it is up to you and only you will know the answer to that.” But this has made me reflect deeply on the subject for a very long time until I finally knew my purpose life. Because you see, the best two days in your life is the day you were born and the day you knew why.

———–

Throughout my life, I have learned so much from my parents and I couldn’t be more grateful. If I can recall the most important thing my parents have taught me about life, is that life moves pretty fast. At first, I didn’t understand, I thought that I would remain forever young, but later on, I realized that it wasn’t true, and the next thing I knew was that I was no longer a youngster, but a teenager.

Growing up as a teenager, I remember asking myself these questions:

Will I be successful in life? Will I have a job? Will I be married? Will I have a family?

All great questions in which I’ve asked myself, and I’m sure many of you have asked these yourself, but is there an answer? For me right now, I don’t know the answer, I believe that only time will tell you. Over the years I’ve learned that one cannot be focused on the future but be focused on the present. Time has changed and will continue to change for as long as we live on this Earth.

So in the end, life is the greatest gift one could have, and because of that, you should appreciate every second that goes by. Like I said before, life can be unpredictable, things can go wrong and things can go right, and in most circumstances, you never know when or how it may happen, but regardless, find your happiness in today and not tomorrow. Live life to its fullest, and focus on the positive!

Life can change in the blink of an eye, so make the most of it.

Be Yourself

When I was young, I made a significant decision that I have never regretted still to this day. Never will I live like everyone else. I would live my own life. I would no longer care about the newest fashion trend, or the new gizmos everyone else was getting, I would be happy with what I have no matter what everyone else said or thought.

It sounds simple enough. Yet, many people will never make that decision.

Instead, they will succumb to the pressure to conform. They will live their life purchasing an abundance of money on the trendiest products and fashion released to the masses – not because they actually need them, but just because their friends bought them. They will waste their energy trying to keep up with the newest trend.. all for the elusive purpose of showing off. And in exchange, they will forfeit their life’s purpose.

This generation is having the mentality that, “I want this because it would look really nice and it would give me the opportunity to it show off in front of my friends!” The truth of the matter is, it’s completely frivolous! The amount of people I have met who have fit this criteria is incredible!

But you know what, I would be lying if I said that I have never been that person who always wants but doesn’t really need. In reality, I was that person who wanted to fit in, not knowing that I was loosing myself in the process.

So I would say to live your life and not someone else’s. You are unique and special, don’t waste your time on stupidity that will only make you feel worse in the long-run. Be yourself because everyone else is taken. Celebrate your uniquess and identify your values. Accept what you have and be grateful for it. Honestly, if you really think about it, you shouldn’t be like them and if you are, you still have time to redeem yourself to be that unique person you always have been.

Your life is valuable. It is the greatest asset you own. Don’t let it slip into mediocrity by choosing to live it just like everyone else. It won’t go well for you.
